Surprise Under the Gardenia Bush!

Imagine my surprise when I looked down and peeping under the gardenia bush in my yard was a full blown alchemist's home!  Decorated with all the average alchemist would need including a tiny mouse on the second floor and a lovely owl on the bottom, it is an adventure to find each little component that makes up this wonderful house!  Make it Crafty has the digital image of the "Alchemist Chamber" and is sponsoring us at Dream in Darkness this month so please check out their awesome store for stamps, digis, and so much more!

I don't know what goes on when I am not peeping with my camera but I suspect all sorts of concoctions are made looking at those selves of bottles and lovelies!  Colored up with Spectrum Noir markers and due to computer/printer issues fussy cut to attach to my distressed photo from the gardenia bush....and yes, it appears quiet soggy as it rains here everyday!  I am so glad he has his glowing fire (helped to shimmer a lot by Gelatos that I used on most of the image as scanning dulled the colors way to much) and cozy home to practice in!

Still a few more days to play with us at Dream in Darkness where it is always "Anything Goes" and all types of mediums are welcome...just no cute :)\
Hope to see you there!

Have Bog Roll, Will Travel

Well!  Even in polite company, at the end of a loooong trip, there's always an uncivilised rush for a toilet.  And Make It Crafty tickled my off-beat sense of humour as I loaded up my cart.  Now I don't often use digis, so it was a challenge to work this way, especially regarding the colouring in aspect - so many talented colourists out there... and how was I going to fill the backgrounds?   I'd recently watched a Stencil Girl Club-only video about making waves.  So, pencils and stencils.  Everything was designed as one piece, printed out to be a journal page, then coloured & stencil-coloured in front of tv episodes of Outback Trucker, and the log burner.
In the race for the Dunny, you wouldn't want to lose your roll of toilet paper overboard.  Made by winding some white ribbon round a bit of kebab skewer, glued into place.  I love the Flying Machine, and been looking forward to using it for ages.  With the Olympics coming up, what could be more fun than a race between steam-in-air versus sail-on-water once I saw the Sailing Leaf

Some coggy washi tape was used as a frame, the "sun" was a piece of energy drink can die cut, and to set a scene with the finished piece, I've "accessorised" with some more cogs from Things To Alter

Waves and sky from Stencil Girl
If you're reading this in the Smallest Room" on your ipad/phone..., please don't flush your reader when you're finished.

AUGUST MAKE IT CRAFTY

Welcome to August!

All of here at Dream in darkness want to extend and amazing huge thank you to Bibi and Rubber Dance Stanps for sponsoring us!! And another awesomely warm thank you to all our new players, thanks for sharing all of your enormous creativity!

Summer, here, and August rolls on, we have a fabulous sponsor to spend some time with, Make it Crafty! Make it Crafty kindly supplied the creative team with a digi stamp each and we have the treats to share below! Visit the Make it Crafty shop to see all their wonderful stamps, shipboard and great tutorials.

Up first is CT Anne:

Last time Make it Crafty sponsored us, I was rather taken with the houses, and used the rusty can house.  The next one I wanted to play with here was strongly steampunk, so "everyone" decided steampunk was to be our theme this month.  But it's funny how external matters influence one's art.  As I pushed my trolley through the web site, I spotted several Australian stamps. Outback Truckers is on tv at the moment, and I'm sooo sad I couldn't get to the Art Is You retreats over there this year... so when I spotted it, I had to have it -the Great Australian Outback Dunny!

Over there, the landscape really does look this red, and much of the roading this rough.  But you'll have to come back later in the month to see how it was weirded into a steampunk theme.

Fabulous!

CT Nan has "Jet Propelled Santa" making a crash landing into her house's roof!
He seems to have started quite a fire with his arrival!

He has kept his sense of humor, however,
and has a big grin on his face as he holds tight to his ski poles.

A close up of the impact....some of the prezzies are safe
but alas some seem to have caught fire and are a bit scorched :(

Luckily, Sky 5's helicopter was nearby to get this awesome overhead view of the crash scene!

Fabulous Nan!

Here's what came out from the Clockworks House
when CT Granne got her hands on it ...
it became a part of the android from New Zealand.

...the heart is ticking...

... but the rust is coming closer ...

Love it Granne!

From CT kim, a digitally layered composite using two physical pages and some digital papers.  The story is built up around the wicked Metal Shrooms digital stamp!

Boo!

Hope you enjoyed these treats! Come back on August 7th for the July Winner's Post and in a few days to see Asylum Anne's surprise!

Link up your fabulously weird- odd -dark- digital or otherwise creative creations
with us and the Frogster...

March Make it Crafty~ CT Anne "Tin Can Alley"

I live in a city where metals tarnish and rust very quickly due to the high sulphur content in the air (remember the Clown's holiday in boiling mud pools?  They're only 30 metres from the building I work in).  So spotting this Rusty Can House  in the Make It Crafty website, I just "had" to have it.
You won't believe it from the picture, but I actually printed it on cream-buff card!  Such are my camera & lighting skills :(

But of course it looked so bland a background, I stencilled a coggy-cloudy background, dabbing ink from dye ink pads in a range of rusty colours.  THEN I needed a frame.  Well, I'd already thought about that before deciding how large my digi was getting printed out.  I would want heaps more rusty stuff around it, so another 8"x10" box canvas would do marvellously.  I painted it black before putting a layer of Viva Decor's copper crackle over it.  It crackled wonderfully, so I used Liquetex Pouring medium as a finishing coat in case some of the crackle wanted to crack right off.

Later on I added all the gold chain - after using it to "mop up" some drops of alcohol ink from my craft sheet - Jacquard's Pinata inks, in burro brown, mantilla black, and Passion Purple.

Someone had recently posted about bead wrapping in a way that inspired me to do my own take on "Mary Mary quite contrary" 's garden - instead of silver bells & cockle shells...

Those are split pins (or cotter pins) instead of a head pin.  Gives them legs instead of a stem :)  The skulls also glow in the dark.
Other corners of the frame needed creeping up (sorry, shouldn't that be "dressing"???)

Die cuts, bits of diecuts, the lid off a self-opening can, the spring off a broken clothes peg, some rusty wire mesh, all layered  just the way Finnabair taught us!  Well, sortof.  Just the sort of junk you'd expect to find round such a ramshackle house.  The other corner got a bit more "lethal" (And now the photo is here, I can see something else is needed where the mesh is glued down... learn from my mistakes, please!

Glow-in-the-dark snake is carrying his larder round on the OUTside, instead of inside, though it must have eaten one for a skull to be coming out its rear end!  The diecut cog was cut from a beer coaster promoting non-smoking - you can just about pick out the work "cough".  More rusty wire mesh can be folded into a more "floral" shape, and the people are tied on with rust-coloured crinkle wire - all 3 are courtesy of my shopping cart at http://silvercrowcreations.com/

And a hearty thanks to http://www.makeitcrafty.com/ for providing the inspiration for the project.

(Yep, the parent's front steps have monarch butterfly caterpillars crawling over to check it out!!)

March New Challenge and Make it Crafty Have Arrived!

Hi all!  Time to get down to making some messes while you make your project to enter this month!  Our fabulous sponsor this month is Make it Crafty!
They specialize in digital and rubber stamps and have some awesome stamps!

They have said it best so no need to listen to us blab on about what you need to do!  Here is what the Creative Team has thought, made, and we love :)

CT Anne:
Mary Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?  Like this, if you live in a rust-bucketty home, I would think.  Even the socks have rusted out.  Come back later in the month to see what Anne did around a Make It Crafty house!

CT Granne:

Using the Forever Love Rose Set

CT Kim
Using Buttons

CT Nan using "Circus Tent"

A puzzle box makes a great circus.

We are having a rather loud tea party right now, so we must dash and finish it!  CT Anne has been at it again with the sugar bowl!  Please just toss your entry below to the Frogman and he will deal with all the details.  Buwahahahaha and Bye!
